Buttonbasher Interview
KLind was kind enough to interview me at Buttonbasher. There's a mix of HALO and non-HALO questions and answers.
Read about the latest from New York Times Bestselling writer Eric Nylund, author of Halo: Ghosts of Onyx, Dry Water, Signal to Noise, and many others--including the upcoming Mortal Coils.

Let's try this again and type correctly this time.
Good read. I did come up with a question of my own, though, if you'd be so kind. If it's been asked/answered before, apologies.
Do you have the time to actually play the games you work with?
Very great read, nice interview. At least you leave a hint of speculation in our immaginations unlike Frank O'Connor, though he's a funny fellow. I especially enjoyed the read about Sgt Johnson and the fate of the other Spartans. It was always something I've argued about as being an actual part of the game as bungie always stresses continuity but now I actually have a source. Even if that source doesn't really give any details about Halo3, other possible halo games in the future, or even the movie. I also liked your comment about the Ghosts of Coral. That truely sounds like something Frankie would say.
As for the article about you on GameSpot:

You've been every bit as forward about the relevance of your non disclosure agreement as Frankie himself. If people want to create speculations based upon what you say or what they think you mean, so be it, I don't see how that can be of any consequence to you or you getting a stern "speaking to" or "in trouble" as bungie.org and gamespot suggest.
Finally, I noticed the interview didn't say much about Mortal Coils. Can you tell us a little about it other than the title or is that something you also need to restrict information about for the time being?
Nikoda – yes, I HAVE to play the games I work on dozens of times. I also HAVE to play our competitors’ games as part of my job (time permitting). Someone’s got to do it!
Fred – thanks for all the positives. No, no restrictions on MORTAL COILS. I’ve just started it, though, and it a year’s worth of work away from being done, so I don’t want to talk too much about it. For me, if I talk too much about a project, my enthusiasm to write it drains away. Soon though.
Great interview! I have a quick question of my own if you don't mind.
What do you prefer, your own IP, or writing something that's already been set up (Halo)?
You talked about both but I was wondering which you would prefer, assuming both options were equal in terms of the coolness factor and such.
I thought as much. You're a good man, taking one for the team like that. Stay strong.
;O)
That was a good interview, although I must admit only 24 people asking questions is pretty low. I'd have asked some, if i knew there was an interview. Either way.
It sounds like a tremendous burden to play all those games...i pity anyone who has to do as much.
And a new project sounds awesome. Mortal Coils...hmm...
Very informative interview, great work.
One thing stuck in my mind, though, and it's probably pretty obvious that it was Mortal Coils.
Respecting that you don't like to give away a vast amount of information, I'd simply like to ask... Is it sci-fi or fantasy?
I love your work on sci-fi, but, unfortunately, I have yet to read any of your fantasy work... I should probably get on that. (I actually have Dry Water on my bookshelf.)
Also, you said you play Halo... Would that be PC or Xbox? If PC, you should set up a game for your blog-readers some time. What could be more awesome? (When you're not busy, of course.)
Max—comparing the two is like apples and oranges. Some days I like apples better, some oranges.
David—I’m going off soon for a week-long mental retreat. I’ll talk a little bit about MORTAL COILS after that.
