No Comic Con
Some people had asked if I was going this year. Regrettably, no. I have to work the weekend—one big last push on the latest writing project.
For everyone that’s going to San Diego this weekend—enjoy!

Meh, if it means a good book, I'm fine with you missing Comic Con!
... Not that I'm going or anything.
:P
I could have gone...but its 65 bucks a ticket and a 2 and a half hour drive. Just there. And even though i'd love to go see some very awesome people that i'd love to go meet, I simply cannot spend five hours driving today. The last time i took a trip to san diego and came back was when i spoke with my editor, and even that was a hassle.
On an entirely unrelated topic, how much did you enjoy I Love Bees?
While I loved it, I had to disagree with their use of one-point-oh's and such, because, as I understand it, the SPARTAN II project got its name in this fashion: there were originally a group of warriors known as spartans, and this project would create warriors that either rivalled or surpassed the original warriors. Thus, the "II."
But still - what were your thoughts on it?
Angel, i have to say that although it was a nice fad (which is what it was), and it was really well done, i personally didn't like it. The storyline was creative, but started out too farfetched. Of course, with the given audience, there is no such thing, but hey...
Sir Brilliant, with the utmost respect, I was specifically asking Mr. Nylund.
The reason that I say this is that, like Louis Wu, I would hate for the comments section of Mr. Nylund's blog to turn into a place where Halo fans discuss things. To say the least, it could get "out of hand." As it is, I'm very thankful (and surprised) that there aren't any people here that say random things in attempts to be funny and/or gain some kind of recognition.
Again, I say this with the utmost respect, for while I have not finished your The Ark yet, nor have I tried to in some time, it was most definitely the best piece of fanfiction that I had yet read from another fan-author. :)
I have a quick question for you about your writing methods?
Are you a pen and paper or computer type of writer?
I know pen and paper means transcribing and that can increase deadlines, but I have heard of authors "Zoning" in better when they just let their hand write for hours past where it's comfortable.
Do you ever still pick up the pen? Or being labeled microsoft are you shackled to your Vista Laptop? :)

no offense taken angel. Your probably right, and i knew you were asking Eric about it. For whatever reason, i decided my impression it was important. Regardless, enough space wasting on my part.
That makes me less disappointed that I was unable to go, at least.
I've never been to any convention, but I really want to go to ComicCon. Next year it will be during the summer between my senior year of high school and my freshman year of college, though, so I don't see any reason I wouldn't be able to attend.
Hope to see you there.
Angel, I was under the impression that the project was referred to as "SPARTAN II" because the original project was a failure. The armor could not be utilized by normal human beings and augmentation became necessary. Dr Catherine Halsey headed up the second SPARTAN project :-)
For a II to apply to the Greeks in history would imply that they were a project as well, wouldn't it?
Or are we not allowed to comment on your posts since we arent eric? o_0
Maybe that would be a question best directed at Eric, himself.
Do you mind if we discuss things in the comments of your blog, or would you rather us keep it to things directed at you?
That might get tricky as it's not a real forum with real moderators, admins, etc. We don't play Halo because we're passive individuals. ;o)
Angel – I very much enjoyed Ilovebees. Sean Stewart is a brilliant writer. Although, I’ve always felt the story was far away from canon in the HALO universe. The Spartan 1.0 thing could refer to the original ancient Spartans or it could refer to something a more modern...I’ll never tell :)
Dragonzord – I can’t write freehand – my handwriting gets way too sloppy when I write quickly. So it’s strictly keyboard for me (I use a red DECK 105-key board).
David – I’m definitely going next year so maybe I’ll see you there.
RE: People commenting in these posts. I have no problem with a wondering conversation as long is everyone is civil. I like spirited debate! But uncivil posts will be summarily deleted. If it gets really bad I can always turn off the comments feature entirely...but I'm sure it won't ever come to that.
In response to you going to ComicCon next year:
Will you have books for sale there? I definitely want to get a book signed by you, and it'd be cool to know ahead of time whether or not I need to bring one.
David-- I usualy don't bring books to these things. I'll be flying in, and it's just not worth it to lug around an extra 10-20 pounds.
why not? good excercise like that is hard to come by...
yeah, i felt bad i couldn't go either, which was upsetting. If any of you ever heard of Babylon 5, then you know that the writer goes yearly and that's pretty much the only time he comes out of his hermit like shell. He's an awesome guy (after reading some of his books), and i felt bad that i had to talk to some guy about getting into USC instead of meeting him. As far as i know, he is the best writer i've ever known...well, that was still alive at the time.
At least for television, that is.
