Signing at the U Bookstore
Authors Bill Dietz, Syne Mitchell, and myself will be talking and signing at the University of Washington Bookstore this Thursday evening at 7 PM for Elemental: The Tsunami Relief Anthology: Stories of Science Fiction and Fantasy.
It's s a good cause. Come out and at say hi and get your old Dietz/Mitchell/Nylund books inscribed.
I'm not going to read my story in this anthology; that would be redundant since you can download that...but I might read something interesting if I can get permission.

Once again, the people of washington strike it rich.
Looking at Dietz' site, i'm surprised to see such an elderly gentleman writing books on games. I mean, i've seen guys around 45-50 playing, at the very oldest, but eh. Everyone has their tastes.
And if this something is special, perhaps a recording could be in order?
permission from who? o_0 !?!?!
Alas, yet again am I separated by many a space of land from the event which you will be attending.
However, the real reason that I am posting a comment in your journal, O scribbler of awesomeness, is to ask you your thoughts regarding the newest addition to the Halo family - Neill Blomkamp. I had never heard of the guy before now, yet after reading AintItCoolNews' interview with him and seeing some of his work, I immediately recognized why he was chosen. A very fine choice indeed, in my opinion. My mind now isn't sure what to imagine the Halo film as being like, given the new information about how REAL this guy makes things.
But enough of my petty ramblings! What say ye!?
Hyeah, I'll come out. Except that I'm a few hundred miles away. :<
I'll catch you at ComicCon next year.
I must say that was fun. I wish I was a little better at talking to strangers, but for me I did exceptionally well. Your wife is awesome, but it sucks because I really wanted to have an intelligent conversation with her about women in sci-fi and just could not get it out. Maybe if there's a next time, I'll have more of my wits/guts about me.
So? How was it? Read anything interesting?
I'd say that was pretty cool. Smaller crowd than I expected, shame about those two who showed up for the crab cakes and then left when they realized they were in the wrong bookstore and left... while Deitz was doing his reading. They looked so excited to have been there, too.
The reading was really cool. Syne's was probably the first time I've seen second person applied well, and she really did the best job at reading. Deitz' story was something, too. I'll never think about supply chains the same way. His next VG property book sounds like it could be pretty interesting, too.
The story that Eric may or may not have read from, which may or may not be coming out this fall, may or may not have been pretty awesome. If I said too much, delete this with impunity.
It was very cool to meet everyone in general. Why hasn't anyone said Deitz was funny?
shini, i think you'd better run for the hills before the serious halo fans tear you apart.
And i just thought of a(n) (off topic) question: Since i haven't had the pleasure (and time) of reading anything from you're collection except for the two Halo novels, i was wondering what the word count for those are. If you are permitted to answer, that is.
I said nothing of Halo. Perhaps Mr. Nylund had gotten the go ahead to read a particularly delectible selection from the book I, Woz, which just so happens to be coming out this fall. Perhaps not.
Hi Everyone,
Just a quick post. Two 15-hour days in a row...I'm going to bed soon.
Re: Blomkamp -- I like the work he's done. A Hollywood outsider is a good choice.
Re: UW Reading. Syne was great. I read a few pages from a deleted scene in the upcoming book. Something about Spartans....
Re: word count for the HALO books, about 100,000.
Sleep now.

No fair :-(. You read part of Ghosts of Coral, didnt you, DIDNT YOU. =( I'm always too far away for any of these events :-(
I watched Neill Blomkamp's short movie on alien invasions in Africa. It was intense and well crafted. Sure, it was a tad bit cheesy, but come on, he had no budget! If he could do that with the little that he had, I can't imagine the possibilities with financial backing from Microsoft and graphic design backing by WETA!
Is there some sort of schedule posted somewhere to events you and Dietz will be attending? It would be nice if at least ONE was somewhat local. And by local, I just mean in the same state or perhaps one neighboring. Road trips are fun, as long as they dont exceed 8 hours.
15 hours...that's my daily work schedule. Course, its only 2 days a week...
100,000 words. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks.
