GHOSTS Out in the Open

Well, I’ve seen two excerpts from HALO: GHOSTS OF ONYX out today from various sources. I knew TOR/Bungie were possibly going to release them, but I had no idea when or where.

Find them and read them if you want (if you just can’t stand NOT knowing). Enjoy.

You’ll all understand if I refrain from commenting on any speculation.

Speculation i have no problem lacking. Its a link of any kind that is now causing me pain. Looking? I'm doing it. But finding? I think i'll report back if i'm bound for success.

XD, thanks, but i think if Eric Nylund really wanted us to read it, he would post it here. so i think i'ma wait for the book to come out.

Argh!

On the one hand, I want to read GoO. Now. No matter what form it takes :D

On the other, I still have to wait two months after the release date before I can get a copy, so I want to remain as spoilerless as I can.

Bah. I'll wait... two months! *sob*.

It seems that they've also taken it down, as the link that HBO posted is now broken. I guess it was just too much for the internet too handle.

I'm saving myself. I'm not going to read the spoiler and just read the whole thing from start to finish.

Good for you EMF.

I see that some reviewers who received advanced reading copies cannot resist posting more content then they ought to.

I appreciate their enthusiasm for the story, but besides infringing copyright laws, when they reveal content past the first few chapters this crosses a line from teasing the fans to possibly spoiling the experience.

Yes—this is fantastic publicity, but that’s not my primary concern. What I am concerned about is YOUR experience reading GHOSTS the first time through. Don’t spoil it for yourselves.

I think I'll do the same - reading tidbits and single chapters just ruins the story for me somehow (though I'll confess, I scrolled down one line in the exerpt page, saw 2531 and something about Tau, then decided it was better waiting).

Though the same can't be said with summaries... they're everywhere. I'm going to have a hard time avoiding them after the book is released, and while I'm waiting for a copy between now and 2007.

I think reviewers who give away spoilers are like people who ruin movies for you - you don't really want to know, but it's hard to avoid them.

I think I tend to be like you, Eric.

I'm into writing myself and I've dabbled here and there. I haven't completed anything along the scale of a full-fledged writer like yourself, but I know what it's like to create something and put your time into it, and polish it to the best of your abilities.

Anyone who reads what I make, I'd want them to read it how it was meant to be writtern--more so if I was a novelist capable of shelling out 100K+ word novels like they're on clearance.

That's another thing: How do these "reviewers" come across your's and others' works? Are they tagging along with the publisher or directly to you to get a sneek peek? Or is it a legit part of the marketing scheme?

Why would anyone want to keep it this way? Just for hype to boost the community's anticipation...like a sales tool?

Whatever I guess, but dang. Kinda sux.

On a side note: I'm a fan of the TV series "Prison Break". Fox themselves on their Prison Break website, post up links to "Get a sneek peek" of future episodes. Man, that would just kill my anticipation instead of drive it. Just me though.

I guess you can't avoid the hype...

It won't spoil it for me unless they show the last page. I have a bad habit of reading the very last page before anything else. In a sense, if you only figure out what happens at the very end of the book, its probably a bad book as it is, but i do that every time i open up something i know is not a "classic". Alas!

I can tell just from those excerpts, this is going to be the best Halo novel yet.

I just want to come out and say, after having read the excerpt at Amazon.com, how AWESOME it is that I am able to CONVERSE with the mind behind this AWESOME story!

....gah! *explodes*

So great. =D

Thanks again, Mr. Nylund.

Thanks everyone for the kind words.
EMF – I believe TOR/Bungie sent out advanced reading copies to reviewers.
Kilroy—yep any bookstore should have it.

when is this book comming out in the UK.

Amazon UK says "November 2007” although their accuracy is not always the best. I suspected the delay is caused by the need to ship the books overseas. Hopefully you won’t have to wait too long.
