Dry Water

For some of you who have never read my non-science fiction work, I’ve posted the first three chapters of Dry Water for you to try.

Dry Water was written while on a 10,000 mile road trip around America and also in an un-air conditioned 1920 farm house in Central Florida.

The novel was a finalist for the 1998 World Fantasy Award.

Enjoy.

I will have to add that to my list, for sure. I actually just finished A Signal Shattered last week and loved every page (as I did Signal to Noise). Dry Water appears to be a little tough to find up here in Canada, but I'll definitely keep looking!

Heh, I actually have a copy of this. One of these years I'll make it up to the Seattle area so I can fanboy stalk you for book signing.

Can you tell us whether Mortal Coils is Microsoft-related or not? A Game of Universe is one of my favorites, and I really enjoyed Pawn's Dream.

Thanks Sully and r104d for the kind words about SIGNAL.

DRY WATER is easy to find on-line used through Amazon...but the price ranges wildly from 1-40 CND$ (!) and I’m sure they overcharge you for shipping. I’m hoping if MORTAL COILS does well, some publisher will be interested in re-printing my first three novels. A GAME OF UNVIERSE is notoriously hard (and even more expensive) to get.

Jeremy—MORTAL COILS is not related to any Microsoft game; it’s entirely my own creation.

Wow! I'm going to grab this one as soon as possible. You have quite a gift. I can't wait to get back to Dry Water. jeez, man. You're.. it's.. awesome.

-This is where I rant all emotional, so I better just say thanks- You're the man.

How did I miss your stuff all these years ?

He's not kidding, A Game Of Universe set me back 30$ US including shipping. I'm dreading the day when the pages wear down and I have to buy another copy.

Hi, I was wondering wether or not you were going to write a sequel to Halo: Ghosts of Onyx. I love all of your Halo books and I'm hoping to read another.

I've found the Signal books at the used book store down the street. I keep checking for others, but so far no luck. It's too bad everyone doesn't live nearby everyone else. A Nylund book share club could be started. ;o)

I liked it quite a bit. Definitely made me want to read more. I've nabbed a copy from a reputable seller on Amazon, for around $6... not bad at all.

I just saw that Halo Ghosts of Onyx (narrated by Jonathan Davis) is now available on Audible.com. I hope that your other Halo books will also have unabridged audio editions created and carried on Audible.

Nice first three chapters, but the whole Necromancer thing threw me a little :) If Dry Water ever makes it over here (almost impossible, though), I'll be sure to pick it up.

First taste's free, huh?

I'll definitely get it next time I'm at the Library.

I actually didn't read these online. I just decided to run out to the library and grab the book(the only copy in the entire county happens to be at my library, what luck!). I'm not too far into it(like chapter 5 i think), but it's pretty good so far.

Sweet. It's been a while!

Glad to read quality material; I may have to go out and get the rest of it when Mid-terms are over.

Hi, Eric: was browsing my shelves today and dusted off my copy of "A Game of Universe," bought some 10 years ago. Just wanted to let you know I really enjoyed that book.

Finished Dry Water a few days ago. It was....different. I dunno. I'm more of a sci-fi person, so fantasy wierds me out occasionally. Could have done without the sex scene, once again.

Hi, Eric,
I've read all of your novels except for the Halo novels. I'll probably read those as well, eventually, because I like your writing style. Are their any plans to write any non-Halo novels again?

Thanks, Much!

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

Dan, yes, more non-game novels are coming. By the end of this month I’ll be half way through MORTAL COILS (a twice-the-normal-size book, 200,000 words). I should have it done by September...and then TOR will decide when to publish it.

I have been meaning to ask; why name your protagonist after a disease? There is a custom over here where anyone writing a phd thesis will be given a list of words by their friends, and dared to work them into the thesis somehow. Was this something similar, and if so, what were the other words?

Eric,

I have been a fan of yours since Pawn's Dream. I have written to you before, but have had little time to do so again since I was re-deployed back to the "sandbox". I am excited to see that you are close to completing Mortal Coils.
I mentioned that long time ago my extreme interest in seeing a sequal to Pawn's Dream, and wondered if you had given it any further thought. I also wonder what some of your other readers who have had a chance to read this book think about it. In addition i wonder what they think about seeing a sequal to it done as well.
