Behind the Scenes: On the Spot!

The guys over at Gamespot’s On The Spot Live put together a behind-the-scenes look on how they make a show. Anyone interested in game journalism should check it out. (I also comment on the record why being a geek today is so cool.)

Being a geek IS cool. It's never been a better time to be one.

I've been out awhile, just got back recently. Though it appears I haven't missed too much. Or maybe I just don't know about that yet.

Though I won't say being a geek is cool, I know what you mean Eric. Being knowledgeable and willing these days can get you wherever you want to go.

As for getting into the game industry, I didn't seen anything in there that was useful. I only know of four ways to get into the industry: Make a game (programming), get into game testing (QA, Quality Assurance), writing about games (blogging, game reviews, etc), and getting lucky.

I did want to ask about gears of war, or more specifically, how you got into dealing with the story for it. I understand you work at Microsoft, who was publishing (and very into) GoW, but as games continue to develop larger and more intelligent plots, what is the process of acquiring writers for this?
