Details on the Next HALO Novel!

Details on the next HALO novel--what it’s about, when it’s being released, and who is writing it are up on Bunige.net. I don’t think any one is going to be disappointed with this one! Best of luck, Joe.

Well, I'm excited to see another Halo novel coming out, but after reading the press release I'm left feeling a little bit disappointed.

From what was mentioned, this isn't a continuation of previous stories, it's more like a precursor. On the up side, maybe this has Bungie leaving you room to continue on with your plots at a latter point in time.

I'll read anything HALO-related. I find it great they're doing stuff on earlier timelines. Should be interesting to see Staten's take on it and how he tells a story.

GL to you as well, Eric. I hope to see you doing another HALO novel as well.

I'm currently reading through Ghosts of Onyx (and enjoying it immensely, thanks dude!) Interesting news that Staten would take on a project like this. If they were going to pick anyone internally to do it, he's a darn good pick. Of course we'll ultimately have to wait and see how it turns out, but the plotlines that you've introduced into the Halo universe have been what has led me to appreciate your books much more than even the games themselves. Staten's always brought his sort of eccentric character to Bungie, and it's been fun. I'm definitely curious to see where this goes. I'm looking forward to any new endeavors that you take on, Eric. God bless.

WHAT?!! I mean, I’m excited that HALO saga continues in the book format, which I enjoy even more than the video game. Yet, I have some questions to you Eric. I know you’ve been saying it all the time: you are under NDA with Bungie. But now that the “cat is out of the bag”, maybe you can answer some of these questions, which I hope are not under that NDA.

1. Were you asked to write the next book, and did Bungie even tried to pitch You for the next one? Or was it your choice to “take a break” from HALO novels? Did you know they’d pick Mr. Staten?
2. Did you work with Mr. Staten? What is your opinion of him being the right guy for the next book? In the interview it said, this is his FIRST novel. It seems, he is very involved into developing the HALO universe, but when it comes to publishing novels, I though it is very tough for a newbie to get the deal.
3. “Contact Harvest”? Wasn’t Harvest destroyed, glassed and no one survived. It was a nice inciting incident for the first book, but hardly a suitable plotline for a novel sized story, compared to other epical events in Halo that is. (Not that I’m saying it does not deserve the story.)
4. Lead character is a UNSC soldier? That means there will be no Spartans, since these events take place way before first generation of Spartans came to be. What gives? A Halo novel with no Spartans?! I’m about to cry…
5. Last question, not related to this post, but is to HALO universe (I’d understand if this one tries to slip under Bungies NDA and you won’t answer). Have you ever wanted to write a prequel about Dr. Halsey live story? How she came to be who she is throughout the HALO novels? And if Bungie would propose such a book (although I highly doubt), would you do it?

Not what I was hoping for (a novelization of Halo 2), but this might possibly be even better. (And hopefully still accessible to those of us who haven't played the second game.)

I'm....concerned? I suppose that's the right word.

I'm excited for new halo story, in any way i can get it. Be it, game, novel, graphic novel, video, etc.

However, Staten has never written a novel before. This concerns me. While I'm certain he'll do a decent job, I still would kinda rather have a more experienced author do it. imo.

Anywho. i'll get er on day 1.

It's a little dissapointing for me to hear that you will not be writeing the next book, I felt a big change when Dietz wrote "The First Strike", there was a change in the style, and I was not as attracted to that book as I am the the rest. Well, that's life. Good luck with your writing.

this is bullcrap i dont want a book that doesnt have any spartans in it. Lieutenant Johnson is cool and all but nothing beats a spartan. i also think writing a prequel to all of this is irrelevant, i want to know what is happening to the spartan III's and blue team and master chief.

not only is all that a problem but you Mr. nylund didnt even right the book.

Are they saving mortal coils for the 6th book and if they are and if you're going to write how are you suppose to fit all of the things master chief did in halo 2 and maybe the arbiter I hope.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. To clarify, the book I’m working on now MORTAL COILS is not the 6th HALO novel.

I'll still read the book but i was lost on the thought that the books were based on a few big rings called "halos" and a group of extremely cool spartans.
ill still read the book though!
but i look forward in the late(r) future to find out what happened to the spartan III's and the master chief.

I just finished reading Ghosts of Onyx and I have to say that it is absolutely amazing. As for the next halo novel, I'm disappointed that you won't be writing it...

Mr. Nylund,
I am not a "gamer". I clasify my self as a reader. When i immerse myself in a novel, I am lost to the world. I love reading Science Fiction.I am an "original Trekker". Got hooked in "66.
My first exposure to HALO was "Ghosts of Onyx". The cover grabbed me. To me HALO meant High Altitude, Low Open. An effective special forces technique.
I was hoping to see some visuals of the MJOLNIR and SPI armor on your site. (What is MJOLNIR? The name of the designer?) Maybe later. Suffice to say, I enjoyed your book. It was hard to put it down. I will get any previous novels, and anticipate the next.

To Stefan:

What is MJOLNIR? MJOlNIR is the name of the green armor all Spartans II wear. So Master Cheif for example (John-117)wears the armor. It was designed by Doctor Halsey, a female scientist responsible for the creation of the Spartan project. If you or anyone needs better understanding of the Halo universe, feel free to e-mail me at psrocks1@gmail.com.

To Mr. Nylund:

Thank you for writing Ghost of Onyx . It gave more insight into the other Spartans, and their personalties, honor, courage, and friendship. I'm awfully disappointed you won't be writing the next book as I don't see how anyone else can craft a 300+ pages, and pack it with action and story, and hooks you to the book till the last sentence.

Anyways, good luck with your future, and thank you for hooking me on Ghosts of Onyx.
