Serious Chair
A decade ago I bought a decent chair for my home office...which over the years has slowly and methodically attempted to cripple me.
I tried every possible configuration to get it to be comfortable.
Understand that when I sit and write, sometimes I really sit for three or four hours straight, typing away (or not as the case may be). I know I need to get up every hour to stretch...but sometimes well, I’m writing!
Syne finally sat in the chair and proclaimed it a torture device.
It was time to get a “serious” chair.
This year my birthday came early and I got this: The Herman Miller® - Aeron® highly adjustable chair with leather armrests and wishbone lumbar support.
After fiddling with the bazillion or so adjustable features, it fits like a second skin, and I can sit for a very long time indeed.
Do you need a fancy chair to write? Absolutely not.
But considering I hope to spend a few more decades sitting and writing, and also figuring my mounting chiropractic bills—I thought the purchase justified.
*sits*
Ahhhh...
Worth every penny.
Now back to writing.

Congratulations, Eric, on your new chair! I will have to agree with you, completely, that a good chair can really lift the spirits while writing. Thanks for sharing!
haha lucky you! idk being 20 i think i can handle the rough chair for a few more years... tho aether way it would still make things more comfortable i guess
I really like having a nice chair to sit in, but my posture is so bad anyways that I'm not sure a nice chair would make much of a difference.
Every time Shini sees one of these he immediately parks himself in it and commences to fiddling. Then he makes me sit in it and fiddles some more. *laughs* I've a fairly decent right chair right now. It's a little big for me which helps with my tendency to sit cross-legged and it rocks which helps with the fidgeting when I'm thinking. Now if Herman Miller and Because We Can could get together and make a chair, that would be awesome. It also might have a squirrel. Which would be more awesome. Oooh. Maybe a comfy chair shaped like a squirrel. Awesome and surreal. I like it.
I need to get myself a new chair too. the chair im using now doesent have any padding on one side and the armrests broke of like a year ago.
anyway these pictures looks good, i should take a look and try that model for myself.
Legionaru – thanks. Had the chair for over a week now. On my old chair I had to remove the armrests because they hit my desk. With proper support now my writing endurance and speed are way up.
Bretw and dangerousdave – yeah two decades ago it didn’t matter for me either. : )
Nikoda – checked out Because We can. Cool stuff. Thanks. Have to keep it in mind for my perpetually delayed office renovation.
R104d – Yes. Armrests are a must! (see above). Good luck finding the right chair for you.
Congratulations on the new chair! I grew up sitting on the cheapest thing my dad would buy. I really hated the cheap ones without the armrests and the vinyl ones that would stick to your skin.
finally bought a very nice one that is soft and very comfortable. however, the "leather" or watever it is tends to make you sweat a little more in the southern California heat -.-.
guess you just can't win sometimes eh?
I agree with the benefits of having a good chair, especially if it keeps you in good posture and that you don't gradually slouch while writing which could make you doze any moment.
Congratulations with the chair. ;)
I need to get a new chair sometimes soon. I just found out today that the back of mine is breaking. Oh well.
P.S. Thanks for the friend add!
Heh, I'm sitting in the exact same chair right now! Of course, I'm at work so technically, it's not exactly "mine"... but for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week, my butt calls it home :)
Enjoy the chair, but be careful... the Lumbar support is wonderful if used properly. When I first got the chair, I cranked the support in to give me what I thought was better support and posture. What I ended up with was some of the most painful back spasms I've ever experienced. I've since backed the support off, and have been sitting comfortably for the last year and a half!
Thanks for the comments everyone.
Sully--noted about the lumbar support. Thanks!
Dood, sweet chair, I drool in envy.
Thanks...I guess, Tobias.
*wipes drool off chair*
:)
Awwww, c'mon Eric... Everybody has an Aeron!
I've had a Freedom Chair from Humanscale for about 5 years, and I can't imagine sitting in anything else.

Maybe if the Aeron came with a headrest.
