Late Summer Update
No updates for a while—too many things have been up in the air for me to announce.
But in no special order, what I’ve been up to lately:
1. Just got back from a vacation in Big Fork Montana visiting family. Great country. Good food. Strong wireless connection. What more could you want?
2. Missed San Diego Comic Con and WorldCon. Next year, I hope I’ll make it.
3. Turned in that novella (the one I had to drop everything for and write last month).
4. HALO: EVOLUTIONS announced. It’s an interesting line up, but I cannot comment until Microsoft and TOR say I can.
5. Got a new netbook, an Asus Eee PC 1005-HA-V. Slightly bigger than my previous Dell Mini 9 and with a gobsmacking 10.5 hour battery (still under 3 pounds).
6. Waiting for my editor to get back to me on ALL THAT LIVES MUST DIE (which I think is much better than MORTAL COILS...but I’ll say no more until I hear back from him).
7. Outlining the next book in the Mortal Coils series.
8. Been getting tons of email from aspiring authors asking if it’s a good idea or not to self publish. It’s next on my agenda to blog about that.
More soon!

Did you hackintosh the Eee PC yet?
You're back!
I've just come back from this awesome camp called Authorquest which is hosted by Johnathan Rand. It was so cool getting feed back from about my writing. He liked the beginning of my short story, was well told, good description, realistc characters, and an awesome cliffhanger he said.
Well, I'm been doing a load of writing. Have like seven or eight ideas floating around, so I wrote the first few pages of each one so I never forget them.
Working on book 3 of a vampire series I'm writing. so far I'm 17,000 words into it, with about 13,000 to go.
Writing some fan fiction too. The Novelazation for the popular webshow called RED VS BLUE, it goes quicker when you have the show to refer to. Since you already know what happens.
:^)
Wow Dakota, you really talk up a storm.
I tend to do that too.
Welcome back. ;o) Looking forward to Halo: Evolutions! Looking forward to All That Lives Must Die, too. It's nice to know there's quality reading on the horizon. While it'd be beyond great for the Mortal Coils series to go crazy big like Twilight, I'm so very glad to hear about something other than Twilight.
Twilight was so big that people couldn't comment on Youtube without there being a conversation about Twilight.
War videos, funny videos, political videos, educational videos...
There would always be a conversation about Twilight.
I hope Mortal Coils some day does better than Twilight.
Oh great, the conversations happening again.
As much as I am excited about Halo: Evolutions, I am waaayyyyy more excited about All That Lives Must Die. Like, really.
Wow - super busy! Looking forward to the next MC - and the one after that. Have turned several of my friends on to the series, so we're all waiting - as patiently as we can. ;)
Cheers,
Laura
Hmmm, you mention a great wireless connection and yet.... here we were, the pets you left on vacation that you forgot to feed.
How irresponsible. :P
Glad to see you're back man, hope the vacation was what you needed. Why Montana? You big on hiking and fishing?
Hey welcome back.
Just starting writing ideas for my sci-fi book called 'Krey'.
Hope you enjoyed your holiday.
Swoosdave – no hackintosh. I love apple, but I have too much MS software!
Dakota and DK743 – good luck with your writing!
Nikoda, Greatzoo555, dangerusdave, Laura – thanks for all the MC/ ATLMD support. It means a lot to me!
DZ- Visiting family in Montana.
If we're pets, then can I be a pug. Or a golden lab.
Ah, the classic work of getting writing done. "Good luck with your writing." It always works. Just like in the military. they say... "Eliminate the enemy, do better than you're currently doing, don't get shot." It always works.
I just wanted to know how the novella will be published. In book form like The Mist or Cycle of the Werewolf, or will it be in a collection or anthology?
Good luck with your writing really gives you good luck, because ever since I stared getting replies from you, I've been able to finish my stories I'm writing on, no matter how hard it is for me to write it. It's amazing how much 5 little words can do to a person. 5 words that have helped me write 5 100-200 page stories. Thanks Eric Nylund. Good luck to you too.
Glad to hear you're keeping busy ;)
I can't wait for All That Lives Must Die! Both my wife and I really enjoyed Mortal Coils. I thought I had lucked out and found Dry Water on Amazon.ca back in July. I ordered it, hoping it would help pass the time until your next one came out. Two months later, and Amazon still hasn't come up with the book... Must have fallen behind the couch or something, eh? Oh well... it'll show up someday!
Good Luck with everything!
I can't believe I'm stupid enough to ask this, please don't hold it against me, I don't just want to be an author, I want to be involved with game development, and since your the only person I can think of that works for Microsoft, the biggest game company in the world, I was wondering if you could help me with my lucky break into the game business. I already have a few ideas. I know this sounds stupid but please don't hold it against me. Thanks.
I can't wait until the Mortal Coils novel, All That Lives Must Die comes out! It is so nice to have an intelligent work of fantasy as opposed to the Twilight hype.
I also picked up Dry Water through amazon.ca a couple years ago, to replace the copy I had that was destroyed by a basement flood (heh).
